Meta has decided to seriously address a problem familiar to almost every active social media user: spoilers. In Threads, the company has begun testing a new feature that allows users to hide specific parts of text or images in posts. Mark Zuckerberg announced this on his page, emphasizing that the team wants to make discussions more comfortable for all participants.
The idea is simple yet useful: a post’s author can mark a specific fragment as a spoiler, and that part is automatically “blurred.” To see it, the reader must click—and only then will the content be revealed. This is similar to mechanisms that have been in place for a long time on Reddit, Discord, and Telegram. There, such a solution is actively used to discuss movies, books, or TV series without the risk of spoiling the experience for someone else.
According to Meta representatives, the impetus for implementation was user complaints during discussions of popular shows like “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus.” During that period, Threads became a platform for active discussions—and simultaneously a source of numerous unwanted spoilers. So, the company decided to intervene and offer a convenient tool to avoid them.

Interestingly, this new feature could be useful not only for TV series fans. It will also allow for the temporary concealment of content that isn’t a violation but might be emotionally heavy or cause discomfort—for example, images of injuries, conflict situations, or socially sensitive topics. This step indicates Meta’s desire not just to moderate content but to give users more control over what they see and when.
Currently, the feature is in the testing phase and is only available to a portion of Threads users. If it proves convenient and popular, Meta will likely launch it globally. What the final version will look like is still unknown, but it’s already clear that social networks are increasingly moving towards personalizing the user experience and showing considerate regard for their audience’s emotions.
