Imagine this: the large Twitter logo that once stood atop the company’s San Francisco headquarters is now completely destroyed in the Nevada desert. Yes, this really happened—all as part of a creative advertising campaign for the young marketplace Ditchit.
The startup bought this significant structure, over 3.5 meters tall and weighing more than 250 kilograms, at an auction for $34,000. It was then transported to a private testing ground near Las Vegas, where a controlled explosion was carried out. The event was organized by a team of 15 people, with the pyrotechnics handled by a specialist who usually works on film sets—so the explosion was both safe and spectacular. Four Tesla Cybertrucks were even rented for the shoot to emphasize the futuristic nature of the moment.

Ditchit explained that the idea to blow up the logo came after they won the auction. Initially, the Twitter symbol was seen as a sign of an entire technological era, but they later decided to use it in a new way—for marketing purposes. After the explosion, the fragments of the structure were collected and put up for sale in a closed auction format on the Ditchit platform itself. All proceeds are planned to be donated to the Center for American Entrepreneurship—an organization that supports business development in the USA.
Ditchit positions itself as a fresh alternative to major online marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp. They aim to make local sales as convenient as possible for users—without the extra fees and restrictions that often frustrate users on popular platforms.
